FMEF Members Approve Move to City-Provided Laundry Service

FMEF members,

Thank you to everyone who participated in the vote. Members overwhelmingly approved moving forward with the City’s proposal to transition from employee-laundered City-issued uniforms to a City-provided laundry service.

FMEF will now work with the City to finalize a side letter to implement the program. Nothing changes until that agreement is finalized and takes effect.

The program will apply to employees in the following classifications:

  • Air Conditioning Mechanic
  • Airport Operations Lead Worker
  • Airport Service Worker
  • Electrician
  • Equipment Operator
  • Equipment Operator – Water
  • Facilities Lead Worker
  • Grounds Maintenance Lead Worker
  • Irrigation Specialist
  • Location Specialist
  • Maintenance Worker
  • Senior Maintenance Worker
  • Senior Maintenance Worker I
  • Senior Maintenance Worker II
  • Sewer Lead Worker
  • Skilled Maintenance Worker – Building/Facilities
  • Skilled Maintenance Worker – Water I
  • Skilled Maintenance Worker – Water II
  • Source Control Inspector
  • Streets Lead Worker
  • Traffic Painter
  • Tree Services Inspector
  • Water Lead Worker
  • Water Production Operator

During the July 15, 2026 membership meeting, members raised several questions about the proposal. The City’s responses can be found in our prior member communication, here, and will serve as the basis for the side letter discussions.

FMEF will provide another update once the agreement has been finalized and goes into effect.

In Solidarity,

Kerensa Schupmann
OCEA Senior Labor Relations Representative
