Dear OCEA member,
Happy New Year! Last year, our union showed real strength and unity:
- 4,400 members filled out our bargaining survey—a huge increase!
- Over 650 members stepped up to join teams or help out at worksites.
- Hundreds came to our December meeting during the busy holiday season.
This energy matters. In 2026, we fight for workers first. Your survey responses were clear: pay that matches Orange County’s cost of living is the top issue. Healthcare costs and flexible schedules matter. You sent us hundreds of ideas for new benefits and better workplaces.
At December’s member meeting, leaders explained how your priorities will shape our fight this year. Watch the meeting video above, or here.
The County says money is tight—they’re considering hiring freezes and budget cuts. But while telling us to cut back, they gave themselves a 25% raise and added an additional $715,000 in executive compensation!
The Grand Jury’s report, “A Breach of Public Trust in Orange County,” lays it out:
- June 9, 2025: Former Supervisor Do sentenced for bribery.
- June 10, 2025: Supervisors quietly propose a big raise.
- June 24, 2025: Raise approved, 4 to 1.
Supervisor pay jumped to $244,000—more than the Governor! Each got $143,000 more for their offices. The Grand Jury tried to dig deeper but was blocked. They called it “A Breach of Public Trust” and we agree! The Grand Jury even included OCEA’s official statement as part of their final report!
The Board of Supervisors find money for themselves but not for workers. We are fighting to put WORKERS FIRST. Our unity sends a strong message: Orange County must invest in the people who serve our community. We built this County. We deserve fair pay.
The Board must respond to the Grand Jury by March 31, 2026 – they should either rescind the raise or let voters decide. We’re watching. And we’re fighting for you.
In Solidarity,
Charles Barfield
General Manager
