LBMEA Negotiations Update: Sept. 29, 2026

LBMEA members,

Your LBMEA Board and OCEA representatives met with the City on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, with the goal of reaching a tentative agreement before our current contract expires.

We were unable to reach an agreement because the City refused to make sufficient movement at the table. Its current offer still falls short of the increases to wages and improvements to working conditions that LBMEA members have earned and deserve.

What happens when the contract expires?

Nothing changes in your day-to-day. When an MOU expires, its existing terms remain in effect until a new agreement is reached and adopted. Your wages, benefits, and working conditions remain unchanged while negotiations continue.

The City’s current offer does not include retroactivity, which means any increases would take effect on a future date rather than reaching back to the current MOU’s expiration date. We are pushing the City to include retroactive pay, so members are not penalized for the City’s delay.

What’s next?

Your negotiations team will continue to fight for the improvements you deserve, and we will keep you informed . Our next meeting with the City is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12. We will send an update after that session.

If you have questions in the meantime, please reach out to a member of your LBMEA Board or OCEA Labor Relations Representative Alyse DeCavallas at adecavallas@ocea.org.

In Solidarity,

Your LBMEA Negotiations Team
