OCEA members,
As you may recall, our contract includes a reopener regarding the City’s salary survey once completed. The City has now completed that survey and we will begin discussions with them in the coming months. (The relevant provision is Section 21.E of the MOU: “Reopener Clause – City and Association agree to reconvene during the terms of this MOU to discuss the results and implementation of the City’s salary study of OCEA represented classifications.”)
As we prepare, we need your help. The full salary survey results can be downloaded here. Please find your classification and look closely at the comparator positions used to benchmark your position. Please confirm that the positions that were chosen are correct matches for your position. Not every position will be 100% the same. However, the majority of the position description should be very similar.
If a comparator does not look like a fair match, email Alisha Greene at agreene@ocea.org with specifics. Tell us which classification, which comparator, and why the duties, requirements or scope of the job do not line up.
Your OCEA team is reviewing the survey as well. We want your input alongside our own analysis, so nothing gets missed.
Please send your feedback by Thursday, August 13, 2026.
What happens next: the MOU commits both sides to meet and discuss the results, not to a specific outcome. Any adjustment gets negotiated during the reopener, and we expect to meet with the City around September. Making sure that the comparators are correct is the first step of this process.
