YLEA Membership Meeting Update: April 15, 2026

Dear YLEA members,

Thank you to everyone who joined us at today’s General Membership Meeting.

We were joined by current YLEA Board members Rob Cavanaugh (President), Kate Spector (Vice President), and Monse Garcia (Secretary), along with OCEA Senior Labor Relations Representative Kerensa Schupmann, OCEA Labor Specialist Sam Rice, and OCEA Organizer Adam Ribota.

During the meeting, we discussed the roles and responsibilities of YLEA Board members and how they differ from the roles of OCEA staff, along with how we work together to support and represent members.

We shared updates on broader developments, including leadership transitions within the City, upcoming elections and how changes to the City Council could impact labor; the pending 3% negotiated increase set to take effect on July 1, 2026; and our current contract, which expires on June 30, 2027. We also walked through a potential timeline for next year’s negotiations so members have a clear sense of what to expect.

We also announced that YLEA Board Elections are now open. While there is currently one vacancy for the Member-at-Large position (formerly Treasurer), all Board seats are up for election this cycle. If you’re interested in running, you can enter the race here. The nomination period will close at 5 p.m. April 28, 2026.

As always, these meetings are an important space to raise concerns, ask questions, and stay connected. The input we receive from you directly shapes our advocacy and priorities.

If you weren’t able to attend but have questions or concerns, please reach out. We want to hear from you. Kerensa Schupmann can be reached directly at 714-564-3257.

In Solidarity,

YLEA
