Judge Thomas Goethals has called for the ongoing hearing to determine whether or not he can trust the Sheriff’s Department to turn over all the materials he subpoenaed in 2013, as part of his court’s look into the Sheriff’s use of jailhouse informants.

 

Voice of OC: Irvine City Council members criticize homeless shelter plan near the Great Park

Supervisor Shawn Nelson’s proposal is “simply to offer a shelter, a cot and sanitary facilities in a safe location…” according his May 9 memo to county Chief Executive Officer Frank Kim. Nelson’s plan also includes sites on county land in Huntington Beach and Santa Ana to provide temporary shelters around the county.

 

OC Register: Hit-and-run investigation outside of Rackauckas fundraiser to be turned over to state attorney general

Costa Mesa police said on Wednesday the case was still under investigation by the agency but would go to the Attorney General’s Office, which would decide whether to file any charges, instead of the District Attorney’s Office.

 

OC Register: Smart & Final opens Garden Grove store

The 29,000-square-foot Garden Grove grocery store is at 10870 Katella Ave. in a former Kmart. It’s the second new grocery store to open in the city in two weeks. An Aldi opened June 1 at 9901 Chapman Ave., the first Aldi to open in Orange County in more than a year.
