Voice of OC: OC Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, Embroiled in Jailhouse Snitch Scandal, Says She Won’t Seek Re-Election Next Year

Embattled Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Sandra Hutchens, whose department has been severely criticized in the ongoing jailhouse snitch scandal and other controversies, announced Tuesday she will not run for re-election and plans to retire at the end of her current term in January 2019.

The ACLU has accused the Sheriff’s Department for failing to properly manage the facilities, by allowing deputies to mistreat the inmates, failing to properly accommodate the overcrowding, and those with special or religious needs.

 

Voice of OC: County supervisors to appoint Commissioner for Orange County Campaign Finance and Ethics Commission

After voters approved of the creation of the county’s Campaign Finance and Ethics Commission, county supervisors are set to appoint members into the commission. The members of the group will be tasked with enforcing the county’s campaign finance limits, lobbying law, gift bans, and code of ethics.

 

OC Register: Wilder Rivers moves closer to securing Irvine Great Part deal

The Irvine City Council, acting as the OC Great Park board, approved a negotiating agreement with Wild Rivers LLC, allowing the water park to be built within 30 acres, of the 250 acre Cultural Terrace portion of the park.

 

Voice of OC: Anaheim City Council forms Youth Commission, and reinstates Senior Commission

Anaheim City Council has created a youth and senior commission, aimed at creating a collective voice of the younger populations within Anaheim, participants of the programs will be between the ages of 14-26 for the youth commission, and those who are 60+, will be able to join the senior commission. These members will be representing each of the 6 Anaheim districts.
