Voice of OC: OC supervisors move to take away independent oversight

Supervisor Shawn Nelson and three other supervisors voted to prepare actions taking away the auditing and financial control functions of the office of elected county Auditor-Controller Eric Woolery, and to instead have those staff report to the supervisors and county CEO Frank Kim.

The announcement of the new shelters proposed in Anaheim, Huntington Beach and Santa Ana, and the order to keep the potential sites secret, came Wednesday morning in U.S. District Court David O. Carter’s courtroom in Santa Ana.

The supervisors’ resolution will be submitted to the California Department of Public Health, which is considering the application submitted by the Orange County Needle Exchange Program.

Public Policy Institute: The Impact of Proposition 47 on crime and recidivism

Researchers find no evidence that violent crime increased as a result of Proposition 47. A current uptick appears to have preceded the reform and is due in large part to unrelated changes in crime reporting after 2014. The report did find some evidence that Proposition 47 affected property crime.
