Judge David O. Carter has been presiding over a federal civil rights lawsuit about a shortage of homeless shelters in Orange County. He has repeatedly said that Santa Ana has been “inundated” with homeless people because of a lack of shelter options elsewhere in the county.

Anaheim, Santa Ana, Fullerton, Tustin or any city, including my own Costa Mesa, should not have to go it alone. There is strength in numbers, and we need to integrate the efforts of city, county and state with nonprofits and the private sector.

It’s been a cool spring for Southern California homebuying vs. 2017 as house hunters signed 11 percent fewer sales contracts for existing residences and listings took an 10 extra days to get to escrow.
