The Council isn’t expected to vote on the shelter until later this year and has left things open to pursue affordable housing at the site instead. But city staff predicted the proposed shelter could have at least 100 bed spaces, with admissions by referral only and no walk-outs, as well as 24-hour on-site security.

OC Register: Union negotiations with big grocers start March 5

Leaders with United Food and Commercial Workers will sit down with representatives of Ralphs, Vons and Albertsons on March 5 and 6, the president of one of the seven union locals involved said. The first meeting will take place two days after the current, three-year contract expires.

LA Times: California’s biggest utilities are losing their monopolies. Is that a good thing?

LA Times: Ever since the city’s announcement last year, San Diego Gas & Electric has been telling state lawmakers it wants out of the business of buying and selling electricity. That may sound like a radical plan for a monopoly utility with nearly 1.5 million customers and annual profits that regularly exceed $500 million.
