Orange County supervisors – after intense public debate and being warned of a “tremendous risk” to the March election – backed off efforts to pick a lower-ranked, uncertified vendor for voting and ballot counting machines in next year’s high-stakes elections.

 

Voice of OC: How voting in OC will change in 2020

Starting in March, Orange County voters will see the biggest change in years in how they cast ballots – as the county replaces 1,200 garages, schools and other traditional polling sites with 188 vote centers where ballots can be cast in person days before the election.

This is due to an ongoing failure across the region in our primary voice carrier’s network (West Corp.). We do not know when the phone lines will be working, but we hope to have the issue resolved soon, according to city officials.

The resort, the study found, helped generate 78,000 jobs, including 31,000 who work for Disney and more than 40,000 working for other businesses throughout the region. That’s up 7.2% from 72,000 jobs in 2013.

OC Register: California No. 1 in U.S. in poverty … and No. 1 in declines in poverty

Since 2011, one-quarter of the national decline in poverty can be tied to California. The state had the largest decline in its poverty ranks and the No. 2 drop in its share of residents living on poverty incomes.
