OC Register: Coronavirus evacuees will spend at least 3 days at Riverside County air base

A group of Americans evacuated from the Wuhan region of China, the epicenter of the fast-spreading coronavirus outbreak, will remain at March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County for at least three days, officials said Wednesday.

OC Register: Helicopter carrying Kobe Bryant, 8 others, plummeted for 1 minute before slamming into hill

The chopper did not have a Terrain Awareness and Warning System that could have alerted the pilot to the hillside even though the NTSB had recommended to the Federal Aviation Administration that all similar helicopters have the equipment. The aircraft missed clearing the hill by 20-30 feet.

An ongoing review of Sheriff’s Department evidence problems has found 91 cases so far where someone was convicted of a crime but “evidence was either never booked or booked after a defendant was convicted,” according to District Attorney officials.

State law gives the county supervisors authority over the Sheriff’s Department’s budget. The supervisors also oversee defending the Sheriff’s Department from lawsuits and legal claims – including any lawsuits that may arise out of the evidence booking delays.

 

OC Register: Huntington Beach school board votes to close a school and oust transfer

In what aptly could be described as whiplash, the Huntington Beach City School District board meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28, ended quite differently from the way it started – with trustees voting 3-2 to close an elementary school this summer and oust most transfer students.
