Voice of OC: Alleged rape victim claims smear campaign by high profile OC supervisor candidate

A former legislative staffer to OC supervisor candidate John Moorlach is accusing him of smearing her reputation last month after she publicly alleged she was raped by former Assemblyman Bill Brough.

A three-member panel of the 4th District Court of Appeal denied the case late Tuesday, Jan. 19, leaving Barnes on the hook to release more than 1,000 inmates, either to other facilities or back into the public. Voting were Justices Kathleen O’Leary, Raymond J. Ikola and David A. Thompson.

 

UCI: UCI to build world class hospital on Irvine Campus

Plans to build a world-class, acute care hospital on the northern edge of the University of California, Irvine academic campus advanced significantly today, as the University of California Board of Regents granted approval of the project’s 144-bed acute care facility, ambulatory care center and cancer center.

The county also reported 1,896 patients in local hospitals with the coronavirus on Friday. A decrease of 39 from the previous report.

 

OC Register: County readies second mass vaccination site at Soka University

The county has enough vaccines and staff on hand for a confident launch of the new Soka Super POD (point-of-distribution) this weekend, said spokeswoman Molly Nichelson. Officials have said they would not open new locations until volunteers and doses were available to make it worth it; five sites are ultimately expected.

Paul Chavez had no idea where a sculpture of his father, Latino American civil rights and labor leader Cesar Chavez, would end up in the White House. He agreed just this week to lend the bronze bust to President Joe Biden and it was an utter surprise Wednesday when he saw Biden at his desk in the Oval Office, with the bust of his late father right behind the president.
