Supervisors voted 3-to-2 to put the measure to voters during the upcoming special recall election of Gov. Gavin Newsom, which could take place as soon as September or October. Supervisors Katrina Foley and Don Wagner dissented.

Nick Berardino, one of the leaders of the veterans coalition and former head of the Orange County Employees Association, said that the long debate between public commenters only reinforced his belief a cemetery in Irvine isn’t possible.

Orange County Supervisors questioned their own pandemic policies on who has to wear a mask inside county buildings and how officials will verify if someone is fully vaccinated, with Supervisor Katrina Foley saying she’s concerned the county isn’t following state regulations.
