AMEA and OCEA Scholarship Applications now available!

“We all cherish our children’s future…” – President John F. Kennedy

Dear OCEA/AMEA members:

For many of our young people, the American Dream means a college education. But the cost of higher education is a barrier to success for many working families. Each year, the OCEA Board of Directors offers a scholarship to OCEA members. For the first time, the AMEA Board of Directors will be offering scholarships to AMEA members. Flyers for both the AMEA and OCEA scholarships can be viewed below.

AMEA Scholarship
AMEA is offering two (2) $1,000 scholarships are this year. One (1) is for an AMEA member and one (1) for the child or stepchild of an AMEA member (or whose legal guardian or financially responsible grandparent is an AMEA member). If only one recipient is selected, both $1,000 scholarships will be given to the selected individual.

Applications must be submitted by June 18, 2021. Eligibility is contingent on enrollment or acceptance with intent to enroll in an accredited college or trade/vocational/technical school. For the full list of eligibility requirements, and/or to apply for the AMEA scholarships, click here. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the July meeting of the AMEA Board of Directors.

OCEA Scholarship
The OCEA Board of Directors offers three $2,000 college scholarships. Applications can be downloaded by clicking here and must be submitted at OCEA or postmarked by June 18, 2021. For your convenience, you can also scan and email the completed application and supporting materials to info@ocea.org.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Applicant is a child or stepchild of an OCEA member; or
  • Applicant’s legal guardian is an OCEA member; or
  • Applicant’s financially responsible grandparent is an OCEA member.

To qualify, students must also be enrolled, or intending to enroll, in an accredited community college, college or university or an accredited trade, vocational/technical school for the Fall 2021 quarter or semester.

A selection committee will review each student’s high school transcripts, current GPA and personal recommendations. Each applicant must also submit a 750-word essay that describes how they would use their college education to improve the lives of working families. The essay will be the greatest determining factor in selecting scholarship winners.
