AMEA Endorsements for Fall 2022 City Council Election
Dear AMEA member,
As the fall election season approaches, your AMEA Board has reviewed the candidates running for Anaheim City Council to gauge their experience, expertise, and ability to work collaboratively with City employees.
With that in mind, we are proud to announce our endorsements on behalf of the 600-member strong Anaheim Municipal Employees Association for Anaheim City Council. Your AMEA Board will endorse Ashleigh Aitken for Mayor and Al Jabbar and Gloria Ma’ae for City Council. Please read more about each candidate below!
ASHLEIGH AITKEN, Endorsed for Mayor
Raised in Anaheim, Ashleigh has had a 20-year career as a federal prosecutor and trial lawyer. She currently serves on the OC Fair Board, and the boards of United Way, Caterina’s Club and Alzheimer's OC. As mayor her goals are to increase transparency and root out corruption at City Hall, while growing the city’s economy and improving existing city services with a focus on improving infrastructure.
GLORIA MA’AE, Endorsed for District 2
Currently the Council member for District 2, Gloria has lived in West Anaheim for over 40 years. Her parents were farmworkers, instilling the values of hard work and community into her at an early age. This mindset has driven her civic engagement in the Rancho La Palma community and beyond. She is a volunteer of many Anaheim groups, most notably Anaheim First. Her focus as a council member is on restoring neighborhoods, making public spaces safe and encouraging job creation in Anaheim.
AL JABBAR, Endorsed for District 3
Al is a 20+ year Anaheim resident and community leader, school board member and former OCEA Board of Directors member who currently serves as Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the O.C. Board of Supervisors. His longstanding commitment to public service and public servants in incredible. Al continues to evolve as an advocate and politician, and the leadership, experience, and perspective he embodies are needed on the Anaheim City Council.
Especially in such a tumultuous year for our City—having voices like these on the council isn’t just great for the residents, it’s great for employees. We hope you will join us in supporting and voting for AMEA’s endorsed candidates this fall.
