AMEA Member Update

Dear AMEA Member,

We hope this email finds you and your family safe.

Last Thursday your Executive Board and our chief negotiator again participated in a virtual meeting with Human Resources. We had just received the news that Disneyland plans to open on July 17, which could mean that sales tax and transient occupancy taxes may soon again start to flow to the City.

During our meeting, the City provided an update on the planned reopening of City Hall and additional information on the City's projected economic challenges in the coming months and years. The City also requested that we defer our raise due to take effect at the end of this month.

However, there is so much still unknown - how fast the economy may rebound, whether we are through the worst of COVID-19, and whether and how much additional stimulus money may become available, among other things - that we continued to pressure the City for further justification. We also reminded the City of the City Manager's commitment to be fair and equitable in whatever employee sacrifices the City might request. We again emphasized that the City should not make rash decisions, particularly involving workers. Every day continues to bring change, and our message continues to be that the City should allow a reasonable time to allow some of those changes to play out.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more, but meanwhile stay safe and know we will fight for you and your families every day.

Your AMEA Executive Board
