CMCEA Negotiations Update: April 6, 2022
Dear CMCEA member,
The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted our lives, reorganized our priorities, and forced us to adapt to an uncertain environment. As a result, we extended our contract for 2 years while the pandemic settled down. Those 2 years are up, and now it is time to renegotiate our contact. Our current contract expires on June 30, 2022.
A few weeks ago, we sent out a survey to all members to assess your priorities for this round of negotiations. It is no surprise that wages were at the top of the list, along with requests for deferred compensation, increases to medical benefits, and concerns about employees’ CalPERS contributions. Your Negotiations Team, comprised of elected CMCEA board members, incorporated your priorities into our initial presentation.
On Tues., March 29, your Negotiations Team met with City Representatives to discuss our priorities and expectations for this round of negotiations. The City reiterated their commitment to recruiting and retaining quality employees and were receptive to our asks. It is time to recuperate from our losses and begin the process of rebuilding; we will continue to advocate for fair wages and enhancements to your benefits.
Our next negotiations meeting is scheduled for Wed., April 13, 2022.
Please contact your CMCEA Board if you have any questions.
In solidarity,
Robert Gonzalez
CMCEA President
