CMCEA Negotiations Update: Oct. 21, 2022
Dear CMCEA member,
After nearly 10 months of negotiations, your CMCEA bargaining team is nearing a tentative agreement with the City. We last met with the City on October 17, 2022, to receive their eighth and final proposal. We also spent a significant amount of time discussing substantive and non-substantive changes to the existing language in our MOU.
Our biggest challenge throughout this process has been addressing the first two years of the contract—where outside factors affect the level of compensation the City is willing to consider. Despite this hurdle, we’ve made every attempt to enrich the contract within the parameters the City forced upon us.
We have fought relentlessly to get you as much as possible given the circumstances and we are now several months past expiration. The City’s tight-fisted approach to negotiations prolonged this process. Your bargaining team is aware of the impact the City’s delays have had on your interests and our bargaining position.
Please keep an eye out for our next update, as we are currently negotiating the final pieces of a tentative agreement. CMCEA is inviting you to attend one of our Informational Ratification Meetings happening at noon Nov. 1 & Nov. 2, 2022, where we will go into further detail about the negotiations process and the tentative agreement. Stay tuned for additional details regarding location and voting.
Please contact any member of the bargaining team if you have any questions.
In Solidarity,
Robert Gonzalez
CMCEA President
