COVID vaccinations to open to OCEA worker classifications
Dear OCEA member,
A March 11, 2021, bulletin from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) lists new eligibility for COVID vaccinations to include individuals in high-risk congregate settings and public transit workers. You can read the bulletin here. This is good news from the CDPH! The new vaccination eligibility begins March 15, 2021.
The types of workers now eligible are education and informal childcare workers, foster care providers, those working in children’s residential community care facilities, and library staff.
The CDPH bulletin also updates emergency services workers such as utility workers, disaster service workers, and social workers.
Beginning March 15, healthcare providers may use their clinical judgment to vaccinate individuals age 16-64 who are deemed to be at the very highest risk for mortality from COVID-19 due to one or more severe health conditions. These include cancer, heart conditions, severe obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and several others.
Your performance during this unprecedented pandemic has made Orange County proud. Beginning Monday, March 15, you can sign up at myturn.ca.gov to schedule your vaccination based on available supplies.
Thank you for all you do for Orange County.
In Solidarity,
Charles Barfield
OCEA General Manager
