D.A. Paralegal Update: Sept. 18, 2023
Dear OCEA member,
Your OCEA Labor Relations and Organizing staff met with paralegal members from the District Attorney’s office on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Thank you to all who joined us. We had a great turnout and were able to discuss several important updates relating to your classification.
If you couldn’t make it, our biggest news is that all paralegals across all County agencies will be eligible for a Class & Comp Study. The target date for completion of the study is January 2024, subject to any unanticipated delays.
With the expansion of the paralegal profession, more cities have begun to hire paralegals. Some worksites even have employees working as Confidential Paralegal, Claims Paralegal, etc. The County is looking to add a Senior Paralegal position, which was not reviewed during the last Class & Comp Study a few years back. Research for the new study will be a combined effort with HR and some paralegals doing the research. The paralegal binder was submitted to OCEA's office today and will be under review. Stay tuned for more info.
We are also reaching out to District Attorney Spitzer to schedule an LMC meeting. Please remain on the lookout for an email soliciting the issues you would like addressed during the meeting.
Additionally, we spoke about starting an OCEA Paralegal Committee to talk more about issues specific to paralegals. As we look to grow communication between D.A. paralegals and OCEA, it’s important to Get Involved so your input and ideas can be effectively communicated to the County.
If you would like to volunteer for the committee, or become an OCEA Steward, please contact OCEA Senior Organizer Alisha Greene at agreene@ocea.org. We are specifically looking for Stewards at each branch court, however everyone is welcomed to Get Involved. The more solidarity we show, the stronger we are!
In Solidarity,
OCEA
