Fighting for you at the DA's Office
Dear OCEA member,
Thank you to those of you who attended an OCEA meet and greet last week to discuss important issues facing you and your coworkers. Workplace leaders and several members, in the District Attorney’s office brought forward several issues, including that a job posting for a paralegal classification lists minimum requirements below Business and Professions Code standards; and serious safety concerns about a planned relocation of the District Attorney’s Office to the Osbourne building.
Since that meeting, we have taken action to protect your rights, including:
- Immediately demanded a response from Human Resources about why standards are being lowered for the paralegal job opening;
- Filed a formal request to meet-and-confer with management regarding parking and safety concerns for DA workers being relocated to the Osbourne building;
Together, we are fighting to ensure no one at the DA’s office fears for their safety while trying to do their jobs. If you have any ideas or suggestions that you would like to share as we continue advocating on these issues, please feel free to contact me or your OCEA Stewards. I can be reached at saregaye@oceamember.org or by phone at (714) 835-3355.
Also, please remember to fill out your 2018 OCEA Negotiations survey. We need your help to establish bargaining priorities. Your workplace leaders have already begun those steps by meeting with me to start assessing specific issues related to your classifications. This is another chance to identify priorities so we can negotiate a contract in 2018 that you and your families deserve.
In the meantime, we will continue to press for a response from HR and DA management and update you as soon as possible.
In solidarity,
Saliem Aregaye
Labor Relations Representative
