First LMC meeting kicks-off the New Year

Dear OCEA member,

We are hitting the ground running this New Year with a Labor Management Committee (LMC) meeting at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 at the Sanitation District. Feedback from your coworkers at earlier membership meetings identified workplace issues that are interfering with your ability to do your job. The Labor Management Committee concept has proven effective in getting results in situations like this and we have had an LMC at OC Sanitation in the past so it’s not an entirely new idea.

The re-established LMC will include union leaders and representatives from management. The purpose of the LMC is to work collaboratively to make your workplace as safe and efficient as possible by addressing worksite issues, discussing best practices and implementing action plans for improvement. Here is the current list of your coworkers on the LMC roster:

  1. Bea Mitchell
  2. Dana Andrews
  3. Jan Orel
  4. Jana Botzheim
  5. Jo Vallone
  6. Mickey Whitney

Some of you have expressed concerns about retaliation for participating in an LMC or speaking out about a workplace issue in general. I want you to know that retaliation in any form will not be tolerated. You and your coworkers have a voice in how you are treated by management. Standing together, we will be fully exercising your rights under the contract.

If you have any ideas or concerns you would like heard by the LMC on Jan. 11, contact one of the LMC members listed above, or me no later than Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018. You can reach me at saregaye@ocea.org or my cell at (310) 948-8441.

By standing shoulder-to-shoulder, we can make the LMC process work to improve conditions at the District. I am looking forward to a dynamic 2018.

In solidarity,

Saliem Aregaye
OCEA Labor Relations Representative
