FMEF Update - August 6, 2021
FMEF President Ed Bargas, with strong support from members, addresses the City Council.
Dear FMEF member,
It was a busy week for the Fullerton Municipal Employees Federation that began with FMEF members attending the City Council meeting to send the message of “No Cuts!” FMEF President Ed Bargas spoke during public comment and conveyed to the Council the negative impacts cuts will have on city services.
Ed was joined at the meeting by more than 20 fellow FMEF members there to show support. FMEF is also fortunate to have community members present who were ready to speak in support of City services. The work FMEF members do is what creates the quality of life in Fullerton. The FMEF leadership will continue to advocate for city services and No Cuts!
You can see Ed’s remarks here!
On Thursday, August 5th, the FMEF Bargaining Team met with City representatives for a formal bargaining session. The team was disappointed that the City was unprepared for our meeting and did not have any formal counter-proposal to the offer we submitted over two months ago. The City contends that it needs time for the Council to make final decisions based on the updated budget numbers and use of Federal funds.
While this unnecessary delay is frustrating, it will allow the FMEF more time to educate the community and City leadership on the need to invest in City services.
The FMEF board will keep you up to date on any developments or ways you can help secure a fair contract.
In Solidarity,
Veronica Rodarte
Sr. Labor Relations Representative
