Help support union brothers & sisters in Costa Mesa

Dear OCEA member,

Many of you may remember the battles fought by OCEA and our members in the Costa Mesa City Employees Association when an anti-worker City Council majority attempted to layoff hundreds of City workers in violation of our negotiated labor agreements. We won that fight in court and when the Council put anti-worker initiatives before the voters, we defeated them again at the ballot box.

We now have a new City Council majority led by Mayor Katrina Foley, one of OCEA's strongest allies. On Tuesday, July 21, the City Council will consider a "Community Workforce Agreement" (Agreement) with our brothers and sisters in the Building and Construction trade unions. The proposed agreement will ensure that those who work on the City’s capital improvement projects will be fairly compensated and give preferential hiring to local residents, military veterans and the recently homeless. Click here to read a letter we sent to the City Council in support of approving the Agreement

You can help by turning out for Tuesday's virtual City Council meeting via Zoom or Teleconference. Here is the meeting schedule:

The Agreement will provide a career pathway for young men and women in Costa Mesa and Orange County via the Building and Construction Trades Council’s Joint Labor Management Apprenticeship Training Program. It will give them an opportunity to access the American dream through a middle class income, family healthcare, and defined pension benefit plans. By standing together, we can help provide working families with good wages and benefits and that helps everyone.

In Solidarity,

Charles Barfield
OCEA General Manager
