The Sanitation District has provided us their proposed changes to several classifications, based on the Class and Comp Study they recently conducted. We have only received the Classification portion but should be receiving the Compensation portion of the study during upcoming negotiations sessions.

On December 15, 2021, OCEA sent a letter and a series of demands to Agency Director Debra Baetz. The letter and demands were intended to bring solutions to long-standing issues facing workers in CFS. The overall theme of our demands was to bring dignity, respect, and support to the workers who serve our most vulnerable residents.

Court Reporter Update: Legislative Watch!

Last week an email went out regarding Senate Bill 848. This bill would eliminate the sunset provision for remote appearances in specific civil court proceedings. We have been conducting a series of lobby visits on SB 848 and our opposition to the bill. There is a chance the bill's author may accelerate the timeline and bring it to the floor as early as this week!

Since the end of 2021, workers and OCEA staff have come together to address long standing issues that were exasperated by the pandemic. Equipped with survey data, worker committees were held by program to identify specific demands by program to remedy the challenges in the workplace.

Court Reporter Update - Legislative Watch

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of our lives and the impact to our work has been profound. Court Reporters and other frontline workers saw their work change. Different practices, new procedures, and altered work environments became the norm. Despite all of this, Court Reporters throughout California maintained their commitment to professional excellence. Challenging work environments required Court Reporters to go above and beyond to protect the integrity of the record.
