Night Shift Differential Approved for Lead & Supervising Custodians
Dear OCEA member,
County employees who work in Custodian Leadworker, Supervising Custodian I, and Supervising Custodian II positions are now eligible for Night Shift Differential Premium Pay as of June 28, 2024—the first full pay period following adoption by the Orange County Board of Supervisors last week
Night Shift Differential for these positions was approved as part of the 2024 budget process in a side letter agreement to your 2023-2026 contract, which was negotiated last year on your behalf by OCEA. As part of the agreement, the new night shift pay rules will provide additional compensation to employees working night shifts in the job positions listed above.
A night shift is at least seven hours long, with four hours worked between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. Employees will get an extra 5% of their hourly pay, with a minimum of 60 cents and a maximum of $1.50 per hour. Extra hours worked after a night shift get the same pay, but extra hours after a regular shift do not.
Eligible employees will first see the premium pay on July 19, the same day your OCEA-negotiated 4.25% wage increase will be reflected on your paycheck.
If you have any questions, please contact your OCEA Labor Relations Representatives at 714-835-3355.
In Solidarity,
OCEA
