OCEA launches food drive to support veterans in need
Dear OCEA member,
The Annual Veterans Day Celebration is coming up on Nov. 11 but many of our military veterans and their families face food insecurity every day. Each year, OCEA holds a food drive in honor of the service and sacrifice our veterans have made to protect us. Last year, with the help of the community and our labor brothers and sisters, we collected more than 5.6 tons of non-perishable food. That’s 11.2 thousand pounds easily surpassing the previous year’s total of eight thousand pounds. We can do even better this year!
Special offer for OCEA members only
Bring non-perishable food and other items (see flyer) to OCEA headquarters at 830 N. Ross Street and you will be entered into a drawing to win four free tickets to the San Diego Zoo. Just bring your goods to OCEA before 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9. You will be helping veterans and their families who are facing hard times.
Free Veterans Day Celebration for the whole family
Join us at one of Orange County’s biggest Veterans Day celebrations! The fun starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. at the Orange County Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa. The event brings together thousands of residents, volunteers, and union members to say “thank you” to veterans. The day includes veteran resources and job access, free parking, free food, a live band, dancing, activities for kids. You can even include a visit to Heroes Hall, Orange County’s first veterans museum located right where the Veterans Day event is being held. Check out the flyers below for more details. I look forward to seeing you there. Standing together, we can help veterans in need and have some family fun doing it.
In solidarity,
Jennifer Beuthin
OCEA General Manager
