OCEA members - Apply now for OCEA's college scholarships
Dear OCEA members,
Paying for a college education isn’t easy. That’s why the OCEA Board of Directors awards scholarships each year for dependents of OCEA members.
The Board offers three $2,000 college scholarships to be awarded in July. Applications can be downloaded from the OCEA homepage by clicking here and must be submitted at OCEA or postmarked by June 19, 2020.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Applicant is a child or stepchild of an OCEA member; or
- Applicant’s legal guardian is an OCEA member; or
- Applicant’s custodial grandparent is an OCEA member.
To qualify, students must also be enrolled, or intending to enroll, in an accredited community college, college or university or and accredited trade, vocational/technical school for the Fall 2020 quarter or semester.
A selection committee will review each student’s high school transcripts, current GPA and personal recommendations. Each applicant must also submit a 750-word essay describing how they would use their college education to improve the lives of working families. The essay will be the greatest determining factor in selecting scholarship winners.
The OCEA Board of Directors is committed to supporting the next generation of strong union leaders and these annual scholarships are a reflection of that commitment.
In Solidarity,
Charles Barfield
OCEA General Manager
