Sanitation District Negotiations Update: June 20, 2022
Dear OCEA Sanitation District member,
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday, June 15, for our membership meeting and to meet your OCEA Sanitation District Negotiations Team. At the meeting we discussed the results of the member survey which we used to inform our bargaining strategy.
We also provided a negotiations update including the District’s current proposal and our next steps as we work toward the contract you deserve. Please click here to read the presentation from our membership meeting.
We will meet for our next negotiations session Wednesday, June 22.
During these negotiations we have come prepared with research including updated changes to the CPI, recent developments at comparison agencies, and more. We continue to fight, to negotiate the very best contract we can for you and your families. After our next session we will let you know if and when we reach a tentative agreement to present to members for possible ratification.
So What Is Next?
1) Board Action
Your Negotiations Team has been working diligently and making progress to reach a tentative agreement with the District on a successor agreement. We believe we are close but need help influencing the OC San. Board of Directors to agree to our most recent proposal.
We are asking that all employees from all 3 bargaining units show support for our efforts by attending the Board meeting at 6 p.m. June 22. Furthermore, we invite everyone to consider speaking during the public comment portion of the Board meeting. We want the Board to hear how current economic conditions impact you and your family.
Please know this is not a protest or demonstration. Our goal is to communicate to the Board that we are united in the goal of reaching a fair and equitable contract. Attendance at the Board meeting is still restricted to virtual only. The link below contains instructions on how to access the Board meeting.

2) Telework Surveys
With regard to teleworking and alternative work schedules, we are attaching a link to a survey HERE. Please complete the survey by 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2022 to let us know what your priorities are and what schedules you would like for your department.
3) Communication
Some of your co-workers have shared they are not receiving emails. If you or someone you know is having this problem, please check your spam folder or contact OCEA. Additionally, please encourage your fellow members to sign up for emails at ocea.org or by texting OCSAN to 43506.
If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your Negotiations Team or an OCEA staff member.
In Solidarity,
OCEA
