The Union is You: Our Strength is in Our Unity

Dear CFS Social Worker,

As mentioned in my last letter, I’ve been in the trenches with you. I know what it’s like when your concerns are ignored, when speaking up feels risky, and when the system seems more focused on ignoring problems than fixing them.

That’s why I want to take a moment to thank you. Your response to the recent CFS Social Worker Survey was overwhelming. You spoke up, you shared your experiences, and you made it clear: The system is broken and it’s time for us to fix it. Your voices are being heard. Your stories matter. This survey data is a powerful tool we can use to hold management accountable and push for real change.

But we cannot do this alone. I know many of you are looking to the union to fix things, and I get that. You’re overworked, undervalued, and exhausted. But here’s the truth: The union isn’t an entity separate from you—it’s us. It’s you, it’s me, it’s all of us coming together. The union is only as strong as the people who are willing to show up, speak up, and fight for what’s right. We can push for change, but it only works if all of us are standing together, united, and unwavering.

So, I’m asking you to attend our upcoming CFS Social Worker General Membership Meeting happening from 12-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, on Zoom. At the meeting we’ll discuss the survey results and determine our next steps. Your participation is essential. When we stand together, we amplify our collective voice and show that we’re serious about making real change happen.
