Yorba Linda Negotiations Update: May 23, 2024

Dear OCEA member,

Thank you to all members who signed petitions in support of meaningful wage increases for our dedicated City employees! Kerensa Schupmann, OCEA Labor Relations Representative and the Lead Negotiator for your bargaining team, delivered those petitions on Tuesday, May 21, along with a message for those on the dais:

“When we are behind the market, we risk losing our skilled workers to other opportunities. Investing in our employees by providing fair wage increases is not just an ethical imperative; it's a strategic one.”

In the upcoming weeks, the City will be finalizing its budget plan. Your OCEA Bargaining Team presented our counter proposal to the City Wednesday, May 22. The City will provide us with a response next Wednesday, May 29. We also have future meetings scheduled for June 3 (our turn to counter) and June 5 (the City's turn to counter). As a reminder, we are encouraging all members to attend the next Council meeting June 4 to receive the City's finalized budget presentation.

Make no mistake, we are prioritizing wages in these negotiations. As we told the council, by prioritizing your pay, the City will ensure its continued excellence. Thank you for your tireless work in setting such a high standard in Yorba Linda. Stay tuned for more updates.
