Improved Retiree Healthcare Update: Jan. 19, 2023

As you may know, your retiree medical benefits are about to change. Effective June 16, 2023, the County is transitioning from the current Retiree Medical Grant to a Health Reimbursement Arrangement. The Tentative Agreement implementing this change was ratified by OCEA members and approved by the County Board of Supervisors in December.

Voice of OC: Court Chiefs Ring Alarm Bells About Worsening Shortage of Court Reporters

Recently the Voice of OC published an article detailing the Court Reporter shortage. It includes quotes from OCEA’s General Manager Charles Barfield who reiterates our position to Court officials and County residents—that the shortage is driven by stagnant pay for Court Reporters while competing positions in the private market keep paying more in comparison.
