BCEA members,
Thanks again to every BCEA member who attended the Council meeting on June 16, and for taking part in the member survey over last weekend.
We had incredible participation, and BCEA members overwhelmingly voted to reject the City’s offer of a 3% lump-sum one-time bonus in lieu of a first-year wage increase. Instead, you chose to keep fighting.
Your team was prepared for either outcome as we knew we would have to move fast either way. As soon as we knew the results, we notified the City and submitted a counter proposal for Council to review at a Special Meeting held on Wednesday.
While we still must meet formally and have a few outstanding items to discuss, the City has sent back a counterproposal that shows actual progress.
Your actions mattered!
This movement did not happen out of the goodness of their hearts. It was directly influenced by the membership’s willingness to stand up for what is fair and showing up at the Council meeting and speaking out.
Your bargaining team is meeting on Monday, June 29 to discuss next steps. We will keep you all posted.
In Solidarity,
BCEA
